I got an unsecured auto loan from Lighstream in 2017 at 2.59%. The only “restriction” was that I bought a car from a dealership(which I did).   But since it was unsecured, I was free to spend the money anyway I wanted.

Upgraded my old Titleist TS3 to a TSi3 with a Diamana D+ shaft.

I have an account there, but I have not taken a loan from them. I keep it just in case I decide to be stupid and buy some expensive old crock at some point. I have friends who have though.

Your mom’s too nice. If I borrowed from mine and didn’t pay it back it wouldn’t ‘come out of my inheritance’, I just wouldn’t be getting an inheritance.

I enjoyed this comment

I generally agree w/this. I am picking up a new teardrop’esque trailer tomorrow and i paid cash for it. Itll depreciate like crazy, although less so in our crazy world right now, but i just prefer to knock this sort of stuff out w/cash and just move on w/my life.

always fun to see the “PAY WITH CASH” crowd come out and scream at people for no real reason

30 y/o faaipdeoiad would have said FUCK IT BRO FINANCE THAT SHIT FOR WHATEVER.

Reminds me of an insightful old joke—the best way to get money from a bank is to prove that you don’t need it.

Paying in cash is usually stupid, having it as an option to cudgel the loan people with is nice though.

Yeah, it is very interesting how often even ‘smart money’ people think buying a car with cash is a good idea. Obviously, you need to be able to “afford” the Boxster. As long as you can do that, have good credit, and can get a loan under 2%, it’s stupid to to use cash for the car. A $25k loan, at 1.59% even over 5

I cannot agree with such a broad statement. I’ve borrowed at least some money for every vehicle purchase over $10K in my life, because I have good credit and liquidating investments to sink cash into vehicles is generally poor financial decision making.

True, but it looks like Lightstream offers (potentially) better interest rates than most LoCs I have seen. Top-tier credit rating APRs at Lightstream look to be about half of what my personal LoC rate is.

Came here to say this. I just bought a 997.1 financed through Lightstream. My rate was surprisingly low, especially for an unsecured loan. I have a buddy who financed a E39 M5 through JJ Best, and my rate was lower than his and he had to go through more hoops to get the money. Lightstream was easy to apply and receive

There will be loads of comments from the “buy with cash only” people.

Agree. I just went through them for a small portion of an older car I just purchased. I could pay all cash but the rates for short terms are really good with excellent credit.

You don’t have to specifically seek out a car loan. You can get a line of credit and use it any way you’d like.

That doesn’t work so well for classic or older cars where NADA may say it’s only worth $5k but the market is dictating $15k.  That’s what makes LightStream great.  As long as you have great credit you can get a great rate on what is essentially an unsecured personal loan.

LightStream is super easy to work with and their rates are pretty decent.

The 100 series [at least before 06-07 when they put in the VVTi system and way more modernity] can be and is regularly run with regular gas from a bunch of people on ih8mud with no ill effects.  It’s not a problem in these motors
