Well, the new 3 series doesn’t drive that great. BMW is no longer striving to be the ultimate driving machine, focus groups have told them that no one cares about steering feel, people just want a Toyota Camry with a BMW badge.

Tesla has done software updates and added battery capacity etc, but they have done nothing to make the interior feel more like a $100k car.

They are playing catch-up. There will be a Tesla Model S competitor from Audi or Porsche in a few years, and it will be huge, a car with the quality of an established German auto maker but with Tesla battery range. The Tesla’s build quality and interior materials aren’t great.

The selling point of a Tesla is that it is a Tesla. People just like the brand image, like an iPhone. Most luxury cars today are only about brand image, so the only company that can beat Tesla is Audi, BMW or Mercedes. Look at the CLA, piece of crap, but people want it because it is a Mercedes.

I bought a car from CarMax last night and my fiancee bought her car from a regional chain with the same business model. I never thought I would buy from one of these dealers as the prices were higher than elsewhere, but for our two cars the prices were very fair. CarMax even beat my bank’s financing.

Sounds like a nice place to work, but I am surprised that not being open Saturdays and closing at 6pm doesn’t hurt business. Evenings and Saturdays are the only times I have bought cars.
