I made the most terrible gingerbread carousel last year- it looked like a two year old had done it- but it was fun!

I know people that feel more poor than usual at Christmas, and as an adult I’ve definitely felt it if I want to give something I can’t afford (and as someone who opted to work in non-profit, it happens quite a bit). But if it’s for kids I quit stressing cos most of them don’t remember half the stuff they get anyway,…
Despite some issues, she gave us a pretty great childhood. And her newsletter would look a lot like Pinterest- if Pinterest had been around then!
Yeah, she’s a pretty cool lady. Even now as an adult I enjoy the holiday season mostly because I do a lot of the same stuff I did then- make hot chocolate, watch movies, etc. Presents are the least of it.
No kids, but I grew up poor- and I looked forward to Christmas because my mom went out of her way to make it an experience. She would find all the free holiday events in the area and take us and buy small gifts for a dollar or less and do our own 12 days of Christmas. She’d make popcorn and we’d watch a different…
I see what you’re saying. Maybe they thought the genre had the best chance of appealing to both audiences?
I think it is, when used not for shock value or to add to a male character’s story, and when done well.
I’m not going to pretend like I’m not vindictive- I know I am- but I changed my stance on the death penalty because mistakes are made and innocent people die and guess what? You have no constitutional right not to be imprisoned or executed for a crime you didn’t commit as, long as there were no due process violations…
I dunno, it doesn’t surprise me that both countries’ movie makers were like, “Big actors from both countries and a monster. And a famous director. That’ll do it.”
I have not read the Wikipedia page! I knew about the Branch Davidians and the biker gangs- those were both huge here.
The Washington Post did a really good article in the summer over this whole thing- how it’s a co-production issue, and how they are trying to appeal to both American and Chinese audiences- apparently making a movie that’s successful in China and in the US is like the Holy Grail of movies- so they cast well-known…
It’s a weird word anyway. Funny looking. You don’t need it.
I dunno, apparently some people still don’t see it that way. But I don’t believe in going to extremes. What women have fought for is having their claims treated with respect and investigated, not automatically dismissed. But there should always be some sort of investigation.
In the U.S., a state university would (tenured teaching positions at state universities is a good example of due process applying at a job). It’s not so much having a right to a job, it’s having certain rights once you have that job.
I agree. I’m all about fair investigations. I’ll advocate all day for them. And I think that after a very public accusation is made there definitely should be an investigation- which they did. Maybe it was a reasonable one, I dunno. If they know more than I do about it, which is likely, maybe there are things that…
You’re right. I did a search.
I know, which is why I said investigations matter even if it isn’t a criminal case. There are enough people in the world that don’t take SA claims seriously anyway or don’t believe people when they make claims. Investigations don’t negate those opinions necessarily, but I don’t like to give people any ammunition…
No, I agree with all that. It isn’t a criminal case, you aren’t owed due process rights at work (I dunno, maybe in Canada?), either. But I get how the person under investigation would want to know the results of the investigation.
Honestly, they talk about his due process rights and investigating, but I think it’s more of an issue with the results of the investigation. They’re saying that a couple of sources have said the report shows that all but one allegation was unsubstantiated and then the school said he was fired due to other issues. I…
No. I say this as a woman who has worked with SA survivors that what I want is every claim to be taken seriously and every allegation to be investigated fairly. The person bringing the claim should always be treated with respect and dignity and not disbelief and derision, but claims need to be investigated, even if…
