A couple of years ago, I think. Calgary was the first to get one. The first “flagship” sized store opened in Vancouver last year and Toronto will get its flagship sized store in September (Eaton Centre, FTW! :))

It sucks, but I’m not surprised. My husband and I were waiting for our flight a couple of months ago where a dad was basically hanging out of the ladies’ room, waiting for his wife to come out so she can take their baby in to change him. I guess the guys’ bathroom didn’t have a (functioning) changing table.
Most schools have December application deadlines - and start interviewing families/booking tours almost as soon as they receive apps.
Another reason: The lack of space - some schools don’t take on new students in certain grades unless someone leaves the school. Common entry years are typically the start of kindergarten, middle school and high school.
Our public schools tend to be better - the worse public schools in larger urban areas here are still better than the worse public schools in many similar American cities. Maybe it has to do with a provincially regulated curriculum? Many private schools DO have their own requirements in addition to what the provinces…
1. You need to apply early and/or
And private schools are A LOT more diverse than many of said white liberals believe. My alma mater had a significant number of East and South Asian students due to a boarding program. Not to mention well-educated Hong Kong and Indian immigrants who like the more British culture independent schools tend to have (at…
There isn’t much equality in the public school world either. Kids are placed based on catchment area, and some areas have more than others.
Some might send their kids to specialty/magnet schools or programs. And it isn’t just NYC. In Toronto, French Immersion is big with urbanites and even suburbanites. Unless you live in a really good area (i.e. middle/upper middle class dominant - regardless of whether the parents are immigrants/Canadian born/Canadian…
Probably because there’s no legacy factor? Some schools require you to pre-register/be put on a waiting list while you’re still pregnant. My mom tried to get me into some pre-school when I was two and they told her it was too late. They pretty much had to put me on a list the day I was born (or even before). This was…
I don’t mind lox. In fact, I like it. I also like toast (regular sliced pumpernickel) with quark (kind of like cream cheese, but lighter). We can only get one brand at regular supermarkets, but more are available at stores catering to people of central European descent or at cheese shops.
Pumpernikel bagels rock! :) Now *THAT* is perfect with tuna (or salmon) salad!
Cinnamon bagels are only good if you want to make, say, bagel bread pudding or bagel French toast. Okay, maybe passable toasted with cream cheese (and I’m just being nice), but TUNA? EWWWWW. At least it wasn’t with lox. That would be grosser. Actually, I’m not sure if it’s grosser with lox or tuna.
In order to be added to the voters’ list in Canada, you have to indicate so on your tax return. If you don’t, you can be added on voting day. You have to bring proof of address, though. Well, you have to bring that whether you’re on the list or not.
Geez, if one doesn’t want to be caught with drugs in a wallet, take Uber! #justsayin
LOL on cross-breeding foods. I guess I shouldn’t bother with my baked apple and cheddar potstickers because it’ll make my ancestors turn in their graves for “messing” with traditional Chinese/East Asian cuisine. Or any thought of doing the same with tomatoes and mozzarella, then drizzled with balsamic.
REAL thievery is when you order a pizza and find out half the toppings are MISSING. It’s happened. I took a pic of the pizza before consuming (we were hungry so there was no use waiting for them to remake the pie) and called (and emailed so they would have photographic evidence) the restaurant. Got store credit.
Children can also be converted without the mother converting. I am still currently on the fence about converting - what’s the point of doing so if you don’t plan on going to services on a regular basis? In any case, we are adopting our children internationally, so regardless of whether I convert beforehand or not, the…
Total bullshit. EVERYONE over the age of two has had some form of pasta - whether it is the Italian kind, pho, mien, udon or whatever. Noodles exist in many cultures. And what about orzo? It’s “technically” pasta, even though it looks more like rice.
Makes ZERO sense to me. Why would you marry if you have no intention of fucking? Other than so-called “marriages of convenience” for those who want to stay in a country. And another thing I don’t get. we are allowed to criticize the Catholic Church all we want. Any other religion, including other denominations of…
