I don’t get this take at all. This car is a beautiful automotive work of art. Does celebrating engineering only apply when we deem, several decades later, who might have commissioned or enjoyed it at the time and what their motives were?

oh SNAP. Whats the fucking difference, Raph? Oh I know, one car is a simple utilitarian tool for the masses, and one is an automotive work of art that I guess you think we should just ignore instead?
Thats a great point. But it assumes and rests on the pretext that there is sufficient battery mineral mining, and production capacity, to satisfy a rapid shift in demand. Which, I do not think is true any time soon.
Lol, you can fit and stack 18 sheets of 3/4 ply, sure. But then your front wheel drive ute is going to be peeling out a single tire instead of moving anywhere (1200 lbs behind the rear axle....).
Ugh those gauges do look seriously bad. I need real needles, even if they are still electronically controlled.
Liz, no pictures of the bed? I guess it’s not a truck, I shouldn’t care huh.
Not too mention battery pack supply chain limitations. I don’t understand why this is never talked about. Lithium (and other precious metals) mining has to increase dramatically to have any shot at these EV sales goals. (no way we get anywhere close to 50%).
Jamie, great research. But can you dial back the sentence structure a bit? Most of your sentences require the reader to remember 3 or 4 things by the time we get past the final comma, to see what you were even talking about. I counted one sentence at 50 words. Dude.
Ours was 190 BHP. The low-end torque was indeed pretty nice, though. My dad towed a few things he probably shouldn’t have.
Oh no, you must have missed the president’s proclamation, 50% EVs in just 8 years. It’ll surely go to plan. /S
Interesting. I enjoy high speed blasts, and (occasionally) weaving my way through traffic a bit with bursts of acceleration. Oh, and I also enjoy getting where I want to go very quickly, without stopping.
HA, he trolled you good, eh. I completely agree, but as long as we all jump in the comments and fire off (engagement metrics), his schtick will endure. We probably ought to just... not read this drivel.
Reliable, yes. Powerful, efficient, or thrilling? no, no and no. I loved my folk’s 92 Cherokee. But it was slow and thirsty.
Typical response from d flower, sheesh.
LS7? no way, not at all reliable.
But you had to assemble it yourself?!? Ok, mr rocket surgeon.
Does it still have frameless windows? Surely it does. They close with a rattling clanky noise and vibration. No thanks.
The VW DSG transmissions can handle 400+ HP, no problem. Lots of guys running that high across multiple models/engines.
Thankfully there’s been an aftermarket solution available for every single manual trans car ever made. It’s just a metal rod, bolt on whatever knob ya like.
Right? Like did the guy panic, and go to click touchscreen buttons to disable before driving, instead of just yanking the damn wheel to the side?
