It’s a symptom of the eternal problem of humans not being able to understand why other humans can’t do exactly what they can do. If you’re depressed, it’s because you’re not trying hard enough, because if one guy can “buck up, why can’t you? If you’re injured, it’s because you’re too klutzy; why can’t you do better?

I find it amazing that Rosenblum was moved at all, let alone enough to try to correct her behavior. I did not expect that.

i have found my own little fitness tribe at a local jazzercise class. my friends make fun of me for it, but we have a good time, sweat our asses off, and i’m down about 20lbs in a few months of going a few times a week. their marketing is definitely along the lines of “strong is the new sexy” and their types of

Fitness/health/wellness/self-care sold to women is STILL thinness sold to women. I don’t think that has ever changed aside from the term. Look at all the photos of women on Goopy’s website. Do you really think a size 18 will ever grace the pages of even the travel and style sections?

Just as an aside:

I moved away from the Boston area, and I will *never* stop missing the Porter Square Healthworks.  I had a series of kickass personal trainers over the years, two of which were professional bodybuilders and loved nothing more than teaching me to lift heavy, and basically the gym was 50% young professional/college

I’ve tried to find that place 3 times now!!

A couple years ago I was having a drink with a friend at Bar Centrale in Manhattan — it’s a tiny piano bar that’s practically in Times Square but because it’s near the theatre district and it’s unmarked and just looks like a residential townhouse from the outside (masking it from tourists), random celebrities often go

Whoooo hooooo!

I’m here for it.

God bless you for that “Fosse Fosse Fosse” tag, Megan.

There is solid evidence that people who vote conservative/Republican tend to have a stronger fear response, and tend to make decisions based on that response. It’s crazy to see this guy state it so boldly, though, since Republicans generally loathe being seen as weak or afraid of anything. I’m with you, that anyone

I don’t know that anyone will see this comment (yay hierarchical kinja), but I was struck by his comment about “paralyzing fear” of being attacked. Maybe just a lame excuse for him, but I think that anyone who can’t rationally process the fears of the world is not rational enough to make decisions for the rest of us,

charged and prosecuted to the full extent allowed by the law then the same goes for a rape committed with an appendage or foreign object of any size large or small.

Frankly, I’d be fine if they just wrote, “Get the fuck out of here.”

This is a BRILLIANT argument and I’d like to use it, because I’ve needed something to argue that point with for a while now.  My assault was like Emily Doe’s - it wasn’t PIV penetration, it was oral and digital penetration.  I’ve actually had people tell me that it “isn’t the same as real rape” and “at least it wasn’t
