California IS thinking about it.

Human error. The gates had failed down, a UTA employee raised them manually, but train wasn’t notified in time to slow down. The employee was sacked.

I once got re-ended at a stop light. It was at a T intersection and the left turn immediately went to a small but fairly high bridge. The light turned green and the guy two cars in front of me started to go. Suddenly this police car came rushing from the left, lights and siren going crazy (apparently someone

Most drivers are fucking idiots.

I kept picturing this guy shooting the video:

I’m so glad I don’t have to worry about this for the most part. New York State spent tons and tons of money about fifty-sixty years ago to eliminate grade crossings on all major roads and most minor ones — grade crossings are just so inherently unsafe.

This is exactly why I always hesitate a few seconds before crossing after the arms come up.

I’ve called NS several times for malfunctioning gates and stuff like a locomotive being on fire as it went by. They have never, ever relayed what I told them correctly. Not one time. The best one was when a train passed by. A pair of newer locos at the time, GE Dash-9's were pulling it. The rear loco was spraying

And most drivers are complete morons, like the one in the video. The law clearly states that you’re not allowed to cross the tracks until the lights go out and the arms are fully raised. Yes, a lot of people do it, but it is still both stupid and illegal.

And d0nt drive unless you are legally licensed and insured. The pealties for doing those two things should be much harsher.

May have replaced several sets of these in the past. Happens on the 60 deg V6 and the 4.3L too. Really anything that GM made with Dexcool in those years. Kinda surprised nobody put together a class action against them over this flaw.

Yay! A fellow Buick person! There are literally dozens of us!

The last wave of GM’s large FWD V8-powered cars was particularly interesting. The Lucerne Super and DTS, with their 4.6-liter Northstar V8 and shared platform, handled reasonably, although torque-steer was still the order of the day. Of the W-Bodies, the 5.3-liter equipped LaCrosse Super and Grand Prix GXP performed

That’s actually neat, although there’s still the problem of infrastructure at the individual level. YMMV, but apartments and parking garages generally afford someone nowhere to plug in. That’s a legitimate barrier to entry. (military barracks/billets[enlisted housing] are another example)

Although the Navy base in San

I get all that. I guess the only, small, point I was trying to make is battery wear and tear needs to be accounted for.

I mean... I mentioned essentially that exact study in the article.

Dammit, does anyone read my words?! I toil over them just for you, my dear Jalopnotropes!

I’d recommend you read the article.
