The rule thumb we have at work is that if an engineer uses a tool they will hurt themselves. Once that happens there will be an over-reaction to forbid the tool from being used by anyone as there is a safety risk. The result is that nobody lets engineers handle tools and all is well. :-)

As long as the physical connections and voltage/amp outputs are standardized, any technology can be used for what produces it.
Personally I’d much rather my car behave like my Macbook pro, which just works, still works the same as the day I got it, and has needed to restart due to error twice in three years, than my custom built PC, current or past examples that need constant driver updates, experience the odd BSOD and generally do not remain…
