That’s not the only reason I bought this car, but it’s an awesome part of it.

I like it... but they need a wagon version of the Passat with a manual transmission, like we have now. Then I would be very interested.
I drive a Volt and it’s silent in parking lots, yet I am still looking at other people and they are looking around and see me. I have only one incident where someone almost walked into my car, and I saw them well in advance and had come to a complete stop... and yet they still almost walked into my car. I don’t think…
This is complete bullshit. Most cars are barely audible at low speeds and no load (like in a parking lot), except for the tires crunching over pavement. That sound is there for all cars, even silent EVs. My Volt is very quiet, but you can still hear it coming if you are paying attention.
Think about if it were a hood hinge - a popular thing to replace with something decorative on the Wranglers and old CJs - make it out of inferior materials and it can change the results of an accident from minor to major. Exhaust - I admit it I bought a cheap set of knockoff headers for an older car I had. They were…
Good engine parts are pretty similar but each a little different. Knockoffs are usually made of lesser materials or an exact copy and sometimes sold falsely branded as an original. Same goes for just about everything made in China - there is usually a goood version and a fake, and sometimes the fake can cause firey…
I’m one of Jalopnik’s few regulars who likes Buick and has owned a number of them over the years. They have been working for years to get here on the list and have always ranked reasonably well. Buick does need to bring back some of it’s more popular performance vehicles though, like the GN and Riviera GS. In the…
Leaf springs will drop with gravity, but you have to make sure all of the parts are disconnected. The shocks will stop the axle from drooping enough to relieve all of the spring tension. Sometimes it’s something stupid like a brake hose, that you weren’t looking for!
Holy crap that’s awful. A scissor jack won’t stop a car from moving, he should have known to at minimum set the E-brake. I think about something like this happening every time I jack up a car, which is frequently.
Hey, this story needs a followup!
For these situations I can let some of them slide in the interest of not being a complete jerk on the road. But when somebody is crossing the lane line without a signal, I honk so they don’t crash into me. So a horn would be expected as part of normal accident avoidance here. (edit, well the last one - stopping across…
They are damn expensive to replace, and offer little protection to the rims against potholes and such. If you don’t have to worry about either of those things, they are nice tires.
I would bet there are many people where I live who would only buy the highest end F150 (and they will never see offroad). You can still get a base 4x2 F150 for $26,540 MSRP and base 4x4 for $31,130 and even those are a hell of a lot nicer than the bare bones F150 of years past. Still more goodies than the average work…
A russian tank. Literally.
It’s not so much the difference in speed there - it’s the grip of rubber on rubber and a lightweight car. The Yaris is pretty light, and it looks like they bumped, made tire to tire contact, and the Yaris tire essentially grabbing and climbing up the tire of the stopped car. It wasn’t going fast enough to push,…
I have a deep voice, and until very recently almost every voice recognition system sucks balls for me. Siri is about the best one going, but that’s not in a car. I printed out a sheet of all the MyLink voice commands to keep in the car so I could try to learn them but they are so not-at-all-intuitive that I can never…
It was only a little laggy, but worked very well. There was also a ‘secret diagnostic mode’ you could enter and scroll through literally every sensor output on the vehicle, which made it easy to troubleshoot drivetrain issues. You could also view the speedometer past the electronically limited LED dash that stopped at…
I agree, to a point. The problem comes when there are no physical buttons to match what you frequently need to do on the touchscreen. Things like full HVAC controls and radio controls should not be touchscreen only, which some are. FCA has done a much better job in their recent systems, and I think Ford and GM are…
But they need a fallback if the system is shit. Which they have been. All of them. I have yet to see a touchscreen based system I can manage without taking my eyes off the road, or a voice recognition system I can use reliably.
All of the touch infotainment systems are still beta quality products as far as I’ve seen. None of them were ready for prime time. Sync, MyLink, and everything prior. None of them were really any better than the CRT based touchscreen system in our old ‘86 Buick Riviera. Here’s a decent video of the system in…
