So potholes jump out of nowhere? Adequate following distance gives plenty of time to react smoothly, motorcyclists (and other motorists) can see and predict smooth reactions. If you’re constantly “dodging” shit you are out-driving your visibility and need to back off.

If you adhere to common sense following distances you won’t have to “dodge” anything. (unless a truck right in front of you delaminates a tire or something)
