Which is especially shitty given what a great cast they put together for the new characters. Along with Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaac are all charming as fuck and they had great chemistry together. 

I can see why they wouldn’t want to retread the cliche of “dark, troubled villain eventually embraces his inner goodness to aid the heroes”; on the other hand, I would be troubled by Han’s death not just being in vain, but contributing to Ben’s final transformation into Kylo. That seems far darker and more cynical…

Yes, but it shouldn’t be.  The word has a meaning and this show ain’t a reboot.  Neither was the show “Reboot” about a reboot.
