I'll add to this in saying that the genius of Frasier as a character is that he could be a foil to his dad's real man qualities and a straight man to Niles even more dappish nature.

Martin had some great scenes and lines for sure and I'd wager that most people are going to say the father son. blue collar/white collar dynamic was the key to the series, but for me, the comedic gold of the show was Niles being an extreme version of the humorous characteristics of Frasier.
