Something I for some reason am hugely curious about is Kumail's accent. Its incredibly American sounding which is only weird because a) he lived in Pakistan until he was 18 and b) don't english speakers from former colonies like Pakistan and India generally have British accents?

The background of the world theyre in can maybe be described as military fascism but I've never really seen the commentary. Besides the propaganda like tone of the narration and some costume choices, both the film and especially the novel are just love letters to grunt life.
