Of course, since there is a whole history of men being objectified as non-agent sexual objects in our culture... Oh wait, what? That doesn't exist at all? Well, I guess that it doesn't promote misandry.

I disagree with Wikipedia's definition then on the grounds that it is informed by a simplifying impulse to make prejudice clean, friendly, and escapeable. I know for a fact that in 2007, a major phone company (that will go unnamed) had drastically different salaries for men and women in the same positions, i.e. doing…
A couple of issues: 1) misogyny has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with hate. Misogyny, like racism, is culturally taught preference. "Hate" is just misdirecting catch-phrasery left over from the 90's. 2) No one cares about being PC except for the anti-PC folks. The rest of us care about being culturally conscious—i.e.…
Hey, I appreciated the article. Why wouldn't you want me to get a chance to read it?
I like how some people can purposefully misread and misrepresent an article just for the sake of trying to make it sound ridiculous. I have to wonder if you actually believe what you wrote or if you were a little aware of how you were fudging things for your point.
Hey, to be fair, it makes more sense going after the "reason" based arguments. There really isn't much we can say (or should worry about saying) to the folks who would just spout off about sending the queers to hell.
Nice article (and a good catchall explanation for why I occasionally flip out on one of the various Gawker sites).
I'm not sure if it was due to the servers we were on or what, but we were not getting reshuffled onto each other's team in Squad DM. That may be a particular problem of Squad DM because of the fact that the server is divided into more, smaller teams.
A question to my fellow fans of Squad Deathmatch: anyone know of a way to actually play with your friends on a team? We keep trying, but almost universally we can't switch teams and so we are divided up. It sort of defeats the purpose.
Agreed. Same question goes for all the very intelligent and generally morally inclined journalists/interviewers who always let the bullshit just slide.
There must be a clause in the contract of every politician appearing on TV which stipulates that the words, "you didn't answer my question," may never be uttered.
In the battle between good and evil, I can't picture them any other way than wearing the same sweater.
Oh dear god. I really don't have too much to add beyond that, but it is really troublesome for my brain that this is even happening.
We can agree to disagree but my point is the whole "it just doesn't fit as well" argument is just another form of "it would be harder to write/require more new ideas." It doesn't say anything about the capability of such a story to exist nor does it say anything about the quality of the resultant story were it to be…
First, it doesn't make more sense one way or another. It's a story about an exceptional person. An exceptional man—an exceptional woman; there is no difference. You don't want to see a woman in that role; fine, just admit that's your subjective preference.
Yeah, the whole "anti-PC" thing is such a gem. "People are trying to block me from saying XYZ because they don't like how my thoughts fit into their world. Now don't put a woman in my video game because it doesn't fit into my world."
I don't agree with your or Cheese's suggestion of impracticality as a valid reason for impossibility. I'll agree that it could be harder to write a story about a female super-criminal and that story would have to lean on the tropes of media criminality in a different way, but difficulty doesn't mean impossibility.
This was my counter-point: [kotaku.com]#comments
Time to debunk my more self-deluded colleagues' points against having a female character:
"Amazing"? I'd probably call it "brain-fuckingly idiotic and sad," but I suppose "amazing" works too.
