I think the hate is fitting because it's not hate for Origin itself, but for the fact that EA said "I'm leaving and I'm taking my toys with me." If Origin were actually trying to go toe to toe with Steam rather than EA going for a cheap shot it wouldn't get even half of the negativity it gets.

I am sorry, but you are flat out incorrect. It may not be easy to trace the intention or purpose of racial choice, but racial choice in art is ALWAYS intentional (as are all choices in art). It may not be particularly important to the artist, but there is a very distinct choice being made.

Yay... ugh. Okay, thanks a bunch.

How about updates/patches? Are they automatic (a la) Steam or do you have to do them manually?

Having long flowing hair seems like an inconvenience for a cat burglar... Come on Nolan. Don't F this up for me. Anne Hathaway as a bad-ass Catwoman has been dancing through my dreams since casting was announced.

So, rather than ranting more about EA, its continually horrible history of digital distribution/support, and its inconveniencing money grab, I will ask a question of the other commenters to learn more about Origin.

Steam isn't exactly "skimming off the top" since they are providing distribution and post-distribution services. Though we get all of the benefits for seemingly free once we download games on Steam, Steam is not free to run.

Choosing a digital distributor is far more involved than choosing which retail store is most convenient/cheapest. With digital you get more questions of download/patching infrastructure, friends lists, accessibility/convenience of access.

That commercial got really weird and creepy at the end there.

Apparently the TF2 community just discovered Epic Mealtim en masse, because nearly every server I visit has at least one teenager repeatedly using words like: "bacon strips," "gay bacon strips," and "smart." I guess there's nothing wrong with it; it's just oddly pervasive.

"Acooterment" might have to be my new word for the week.

A carrot? Looks more like a foot.

Awesome post. Thanks.

I am cynical and I don't totally believe Blizzard's claims for why they hadn't moved to do something more official with DotA.

The only reason I'd disagree with you is that, in this situation, MOBAs expanded from just a mod to an entire genre very quickly. With all the other projects Blizzard has had on its plate for the last few years it wouldn't be totally unrealistic for the whole Blizzard DotA thing to have been at the bottom of the pile

As Tiresias said, there are no Blizzard tools being used and Blizzard very specifically never claimed the rights to DotA because they A. wanted to keep it a community thing (if you are a romantic and you believe what corporations say) or B. thought they had a lock on the community staying with them (which it is ever

I wouldn't be surprised if TF2 going F2P was part of a test run for DOTA2

They seem to be taking a "why open the door when you can kick it in" approach. If nothing else, it will certainly attract the attention of DotA professionals since $1 million is nothing to scoff at. I imagine their rationale is that the DotA and LoL adherents tend to follow the pros so if they get the pros they can

That suggests that the face is the only bad part.

Erm. Even though this is just a cupcake how-to, putting together a vagina sounds a lot like taking apart a vagina. #serialkillervibes
