I definitely felt more emotionally invested in Taipei than I did in any of the Ellis novels I've read, but part of that might be my interest in seeing an Asian writer tackle themes outside of the traditional "Asian person tries to adjust to Western society."  I really did feel for Paul and his girlfriend, even as I

Interesting.  I do sort of like it as counterprogramming (or imitation), and there's something nice about being able to watch vulgar Archie comics while pleasantly drunk on Saturday nights.

I can see that.  It might be hard to retroactively give Finn an addiction to heroin.  I do forsee some, "Addiction runs in his family!" crying in the future.

@Scrawler2:disqus Ooh, which ones?

Oh, you absolutely should.  I haven't read his other work, but Taipei was fucking amazing.  And, as I mentioned on here a long time ago, it's got surprising crossover appeal.  For some reason, I've seen it every time I go to Target (once a month, I guess).

I'm really curious to see how this ADHD late night programming works out.  I heard ratings were okay for its debut, but I'm not sure how well Fox is hoping to do with TV-MA cartoons at eleven.  I'm definitely starting to like High School USA!, but I have no idea what sort of production order Fox gave any of the shows

I quite enjoyed it too.  I wasn't really emotionally invested, but I liked it.

I kinda hope he did kill her, but if he did, it's not just because he's EVIL.  I'm really dreading some "I was abused by my aunt" reveal.

Aria is definitely really fucking weird in the books.  She apparently leaves the house looking like a hobo everyday.  I kind of miss it on the television show.

I will confess to having bought some dead bird earrings after season one aired.

I love that tumblr.

Only if the main dude's son appears in the film as his brother.

@avclub-133c0dfe3a0525b1a3aa3f64b8a7aa8b:disqus Interesting.  I just finished Roszak's Frankenstein prequel/retelling, and it was pretty much really violent, agonizing porn at times.  So, not that different from the fanfiction on the internet.

I know it's basically cliche at this point to say so, but after reading Taipei, I really believe Tao Lin is the next Bret Easton Ellis.  I found that book to be incredibly fascinating and rather nihilistic, yet I really rooted for its characters to get their shit together.  No idea if Lin is actually a douche on the

You could be a nine year old.  We have no way of knowing.

Have they already used "Cell Block Tango"?  I can see Murphy staging it with a bunch of flamboyantly gay inmates singing about former lovers while Finn looks all sad puppy dog-eyed.

I think every sequel/prequel to public domain fiction counts as fanfiction, but that's just me.

How do you know they're his mothers if something antisemitic isn't written above them?

Then you'd need to cast two Princes instead of Doctors.

I'm not sure if I spend more time looking at my phone than the television.  I don't have a computer, so I do spend quite a bit of time with my Kindle, but I'm not a big texter.  On the other hand, I have been watching a lot of television, but it's mainly involved lots of pausing to take notes and spending an hour
