But don’t you see, it’s Madonna’s story to tell: Michaela was adopted by a white couple; Madonna has adopted four black children from Malawi. So it’s the perfect white savior story for her, the Greatest White Savior of them all.

Ah yes people suited for big CGI films, like Ryan Coogler and Taika Waititi? How do you actually become suited for a big CGI film, if nobody who isn’t experienced with CGI films is ever hired for one?
And your complaint about Oprah is... she looks silly? HEAVENS FORFEND something look silly in a genre film. Like…
Yet somehow they were all cool with having Chris Brown guest star.
That athletes kneeling during the national anthem is even controversial makes me sad-ish.
This seasons had its ups and downs and downs bent into ups by the sheer willpower of the actors. Ultimately, I didn’t find that they cashed the check they wrote with Trish’s plot, erratic as it was. Trish / Jessica was a well-played and lived-in relationship, and its dissolution robs the show of its heart going…
The season let me down, and bought into the whole sacrosanct bullshit that is the concept of motherhood as some all powerful constant force - I wish it had been able to acknowledge how toxic either mother was, with at least Trish or Jessica severing those ties.
I know that it’s popular trope that all cats hate their owners, but how many of you all have cats that do actually like you?
All three of mine love being around me, and demand to be loved on and cuddled. I’d post a picture of the three them with me on my bed but Kinja is being dumb.
I loved it! Drew Barrymore is endlessly charming, Timothy Olyphant is both endearing and hilarious as the loving husband (and foine as hell, obviously), and it’s (somehow) sweet, light-hearted, and doesn’t take itself seriously. I could do with more shows like that.
It’s been a long winter. I’m ready to see Drew eat people for laughs.
Counterpoint: The first season was great...The premise is unique the casting was great and the show overall was really witty. I didn’t think there were any tonal issues at all - ALSO Timothy Olyphant is really, really good in it.
I fucking loved the show, but full-disclosure: I binge-watched it with my partner the week we brought a baby home from the hospital, so we were sleep-deprived and inclined to like any show, especially a show about a family of three with a daughter.
I actually really liked it! It takes a while to find its rhythm, but I thought it was really hitting its stride by the end of the first season, so I have a lot of hope for the second season.
Same. It wasn’t mind-blowingly hilarious, but it was funny and a nice minimal-thinking show to binge on a snowed-in weekend. I never realized Timothy Olyphant had such great comedic timing.
This happened with the similarly wobbly Grace & Frankie, which didn’t finds its footing until Season 3. —Say whaaa?! Not one thing was wobbly about it. It was golden from the first episode. But then again, that’s just my opinion because l freaking loooove that show!
I love this show and what a great vehicle for both of them. I don’t think I have ever seen Timothy Olyphant be so good with comedy.
I was iffy on it, too, but then the show kept reminding me how goddamned adorable Olyphant is, and I had to watch all of it.
Much of the first season was spent me crying about how I don’t think I could ever find someone who loves and supports me so much that would stand by my side while I became a flesh eating zombie.
I thought it was entertaining. Glad to see they’re giving it another chance.
Whatever, Bobby, I thought it was hilarious and your criticism of “tonally uneven” I found refreshingly quirky and a nice change from the sheer myriads of tired cliche formulas that even the progressive shows like Grace & Frankie and Blackish never seem to stop using. I mean, did you think the Addams Family was…
I liked the first season. Laughed all the way through it. And I say that as someone who hates zombies.
