I love me a well-kept relic, and it always amazes me how long car design has been in an uninspiring slump (since somewhere in the ‘90s). This is a very cool car for somebody, just not $28K cool.  No dice.

About 10 years ago I succumbed to the pull of nostalgia and bought an 85 MR2 just like the one I had when I was 24. It was fun and exciting — for the first few days. Then I discovered how hard it was to find parts for it, especially the interior and exterior plastic trim. It was miserable on the highway as cars from

Actually, didn’t care. The point I thought I made was it may have been fairly great in its day, but little more than quaint today.

For nearly 30k I’d want a concours level car. This is not close to that. The seat wear, the double DIN unit (rad 80s stereos are part of the charm!) and there is plastic damage all over the passenger side (UV degradation?).

It’s a mid-eighties tin can, slower than a rental Altima. I’m old, lived through that era; not legendary, not revered and not worth anything near that price. I do recognize that 'worth' is a bizzare concept in automobile fandom.

I truly don’t know how to vote on this.

Super clean, but no one should be paying Cayman 987.1 money for an AE86, no matter how hyped and ‘legendary’ it may be.

The gigantic graphic describing very specific technical details - the number of camshafts and number of valves - is very period appropriate. Just a few years earlier, Honda was placing “5 SPEED” badges on the Civic to let everyone know their car had one more gear than the competition.  Those kinds of things are long

If the seller was smart, he’d advertise that they are Lotus Esprit taillights, give that bad boy some provenance! (Lotus bought them from Toyota)

If the 2 was missing from the front at least we could debate the merits of the car itself. I’m still not sure it would go NP but it would be close at least.

To get anywhere close to this price, it should be just about perfect. It’s very, very good, but not perfect. It’s also got a lot of miles left, but where would you DD it without worrying that a brodozer will run over you and not even notice? ND.

Nice car.

If the seller thinks it’s all that and a bag of chips, they should keep it. I doubt anyone else does.

TIL there’s a town in Nebraska called Wahoo.

Also... ND!

That is a LOT of cabbage for nostalgia. Nostalgia I don’t have.

Is it really that “venerated”?

Those are incredibly modern looking tailights for a 1985 anything. Like a 90s audi or something. Also, almost 30k?! CP

“....but that was a shit honeymoon.”

Why would you assume threats to the democratic process should only be dealt with via violence?
