A settlement is not criminal charges. And in O’Reilly’s case, there was an NDA attached, so it literally is ‘hush money’.
I didn’t say I never heard of anyone going through legal channels. I said I haven’t heard of any of the accusers in these high-profile cases doing so. More specifically, I mean criminal charges, not “hush money” settlements like with Bill O’Reilly. If you have any examples, I’ll accept your argument that I haven’t…
I’ve heard plenty of people say that. But it’s also not the first time I’ve heard someone declare the entire legal system broken because they didn’t get the result they wanted. But as far as these recent high-profile cases, I haven’t heard that any of them have even attempted using the legal system. To label someone a…
Explain how it’s not relevant to the article. The point of the article is that groping and sexual harassment are criminal acts, and should be treated as such. My point is that there is a formal process for criminal charges, and these people shouldn’t be considered criminals if that process isn’t followed.
That’s if we assume ‘eye for an eye’ is considered appropriate punishment.
If you want it to be treated like a crime, then press charges. Don’t have them tried in the court of public opinion 10 years after it happened.
Having to ask people what pronouns they like to be referred to with isn’t a ‘common’ courtesy. It’s a courtesy 99.999% of the wouldn’t need or ask for in order to be made comfortable. This is an argument over how to humor insane people.
That would be nice, except it wasn’t Trump or Republicans that pushed for him to resign (gleeful as they are that this is happening). Also, one of the talking points among conservatives is that liberals don’t really give a shit about the sexual harassment. This is all just political chess, where if they get rid of a…
There’s plenty of non-straight, non-white, non-males that have these issues as well. You’re deluding yourself if you think someone’s race/gender/sexual identity makes them a better choice as a politician.
You seem to be implying that a company CAN tell employees and/or penalize them for how they live their life
And now that they have one, how much longer until they have 120+ of their own? When will your answer ever NOT be ‘let’s just do nothing and hope it goes away’?
I don’t think he ever said anything about whether the US should act unilaterally to do these things. And I doubt any of the people that voted on the poll have any ability to determine policy. It IS a question worthy of discussion, though (just like in the comment section here).
The problem is that it comes across as hypocritical. It would look to a lot of people that the politician that is otherwise acceptable to liberals is only required to apologize, while there’s an outcry for conservatives to be punished more harshly.
Well, apparently the theory among conservatives is that the liberal guys that are being accused of assault / harassment are just sacrificial lambs in order to give more legitimacy to impeaching Trump for those same things.
It’s not about your emotions, it’s about you prefacing it all with “I’m white and...” You want everyone to see how much you care about those poor, unfortunate people who have browner skin than you.
It’s so good of you to use the deaths of innocents as an excuse to boost your internet cred. Take your “white people are the problem” lines over to The Root, and get yourself some more easy stars! And then you can sleep soundly at night, never giving any more thought to the attack beyond what it means for your own…
Thank you for your virtue signaling!
More of a comment for Deadspin, but: if you have any interest in being a ref/ump, please do it. Leagues have a real problem getting officials to work kids’ games. The pay stinks, and the abuse they get is rough.
You see posts like that all the time on here too, though. It’s disingenuous to act as if Salon is the only place you’ll see articles like that.
