That's Scott Staph? Jeebus, from a distance (of 2 ft) I thought it was Ozzie.

Really well written, nice analysis + humor.  The vault achieving sentience and demanding virgin sacrifice had me rolling.

I think people forget how many major scenes there are (cribbed from myself, here on the AVC), a while back.

eh, most of it is just a great adventure story. The part about the mother and the brutal sailor could be read as having been literal w/ Pi constructing the tiger scenario to deal w/ it or as a story he made up b/c it sounded more plausible to authorities.  It's been a few years since I read LoP, but I never got much

Given the large # of important (and large scale) scenes in the Hobbit + PJ wanting to add in related elements (casting Sauron out of Mirkwood etc), 2 movies has always made sense. Three seems to be pushing it given that there are not large amounts of Tolkein's writing (or books if you prefer) on which to base them.

Is this an actual 2000 AD storyline or is Hollywood too "smart" for that?

Or even hand that money out to different directors to shoot chapters from the book, take the best 5-6 and add in something simple (!) to tie all the stories together.  It's a shame. This is a fantastic book and it never should have been this hard to make a good movie out of it.

Did anyone else think the scene w/ Joan and Don indicated that Lane had left his life insurance policy to Joan rather than his family?
