Meh, he doesn't sound sexist to me, he just sounds immature. Y'know, like a college student writing in a college publication.

Ah, I understand. I got all wrapped up in my passion for giving a voice to people who come from an extreme minority, and went gung-ho. :)
I don't know if this will help, but it'll give my perspective on why I feel "people who are different than me =/= damaged."
Yes! That's exactly how I felt when I read that quote. I feel "sex-positive" has more of a "be who you are, it's cool" vibe than a "yay sex, it's what's for dinner!" vibe.
While reading this wrap-up by Jezebel (and actually, while looking through Dratch's IMDB photos on a whim last month), Steve Buscemi immediately came to mind. I'm no pop culture whiz, but both Dratch and Buscemi conjure up haggard or otherwise bizzarre facial features in my mind.
I've been on a gluten-free diet due to Celiac Disease for over a decade, and for awhile lived with a vegan, a vegetarian and a friend who was lactose intolerant. Cooking for the four of us got interesting!
Hehe, aww thanks! Yeah, I'm on here often - it's like my Girl Scout, Lady-Issue and Sex Positive news source. :)
Hah!! Yeah, while I'm definitely on Team GObama as well... I write a comic strip that includes a Deaf character, and because of this I've been meeting some AWESOME Deaf readers at conventions and signings. Even with all the ASL I've been cramming into my head, the ONLY words I can remember on a whim are "thank you"…
You should do it!!
Ooh your comment brought tears to my eyes! This is so sweet. :) Congratulations to you and your partner!
Ah, that sucks. It really has everything to do with the leaders, and I guess the group of girls as well (I've seen some troops full of girls that HATE the idea of camping, so they just don't go camping -fair enough, but kind of a bummer!).
"P.S. Be aware that just as there were petty mean girls in high school, you may encounter petty mean women in Girl Scouts, as well as those whose focus is on padding their resume or their enhancing their public image and not on the girls. Learn to recognize and avoid them."
Only one person in my troop of 7 earned her Gold Award. She set up a week-long Spanish camp for kids (I think 4th & 5th grade?). She REALLY earned it! I remember this enormous D-ring binder she had with all the permission slips and proper forms. Myself and a few friends helped teach the week-long class, which gave the…
Wow, I love that! I'd like to suggest that alternative in case I meet a non-religious scout, if you don't mind. :)
I just got home from spending the evening at the mall of my hometown in Frederick, Maryland, volunteering to wrangle over a thousand Scouts to celebrate the 100th birthday together.
Exactly - now that the method has been proven, I hope it'll be used by charities that have a clear and transparent goal. The Kony 2012 thing worked on me, and I'm some 30-year-old cat lady who doesn't care about looking "totally rad" in a Kony tee-shirt (I'd rather not). But thinking that I might be a part of a group…
Exactly! I'm one of the many that this campaign worked on 100% immediately. I donated five minutes after watching the film, and I'm usually very level-headed about charities. I didn't do a lick of research because the film seemed so well-intentioned (in honesty, I think it has much more to do with Mr. Russell wanting…
Aahhh, that sucks, I hadn't heard that. :(
"... women trust men's voice more than women's voices, and certainly men trust men's voices more than women's voices. That's how it's been, but it's evolving."
Today I realized that I may have gotten too comfortable with the Peeing With The Door Open one.
