Totally - why bother trying to stop any air pollution unless you stop every single instance of it at once?

What does this have to do with simplifying regulations? Everything was going according to plan before Trump decided to get involved. His people are the reason things are so complicated all of a sudden.
Thanks, I would have never guessed that:
Adding it to the list!!
The. Brisket. At. Opie’s.
It’s an argument that is easy to rationalize now that the auto trans. are so good.
Forkin’ sweet!
Very true — but people didn’t look at TCO with gas cars, I don’t imagine they’ll magically change their ways ;)
EV batteries are lasting way longer than the critics said they would. My 2015 Leaf w/35k miles still has ~95% of its initial range, which is still way more than enough to me get to work and back, run a few errands, and recharge overnight. It will take 10+ years to get down to a range where it will start to make enough…
Tesla batteries are thermally managed which helps them last a long time, and they typically last between 300 and 500k miles. I don’t know of one that’s gotten that far but the evidence so far shows they average about 5% battery degradation over 100k miles. That’s pretty good.
In theory, it should be MUCH easier and less resource-intensive to recycle batteries than it is to mine/mill/refine new materials.
EVs have potential to be on the road longer. Beyond the battery, everything else lasts better. Many companies are producing extremely long lived batteries, look at early Model S degradation rates. These will be usable for most purposes for a long time from now.
This would be calculated under the form of average car lifespan, which is currently 8 years in the USA for a fleet that is 99% composed of ICE powered cars, it’s unlikely to go under that.
Recycling of EV batteries is still in its infancy, but it is being worked on.
The NBA is far superior in this regard. Far.
Exactly. Our Model 3 from last April is flawless, and we’ve driven it from Seattle to San Diego. The whole experience is a joy. We got rid of the truck (you can rent those now) and rely on our 5 1/2 yer old Leaf for daily shopping & errands. Yes, two EVs with solar on the house. Don’t just listen to guys in the…
So, you could ‘hack’ human drivers by blacking out and re-painting road markings near an unlit corner on a country road? Shocker! Sell your Tesla stock!
I understand that, in general, refining a gallon of gasoline requires about 6kWh of electricity. Or about 24 miles of range on the typical EV.
The fact that some EVs might be “dirtier” overall than an ICE equivalent is a short term argument. Energy generation is only getting cleaner, as it should. Drilling and burning oil is not sustainable. In 50 years, ICEs will be relegated to very poor regions or niche markets.
