The Timbers (Portland’s MLS team) wanted to expand their stadium since they’ve sold out every game since they started. The only break they got from the city was an agreement not to charge the ticket tax on the new seats for 10 years or so. The city is giving up $2M in revenue over those 10 years, but that revenue…

Every league always has a city lined up “ready” to move a team. In MLB it is currently Portland. Maybe the Dbags will go as far as Milwaukee did back in the 90's and have a guy pose as a potential buyer, ready to move the team (in that case it was Charlotte). I hope the city and state stand their ground here.

The sad thing is I think we’ll continue to see situations like the Braves where a neighboring county, city, state, etc. decides to throw subsidies at ballparks and steal the franchise or force the current location to fork up millions to keep “their team” at “home.”

It shows it’s age, but it was a great stadium to see games. Saw a couple Dip’s games as well as Brazil/Germany and USA/Mexico (we won 4-0!). Saw a few Nats games there the first season.

And the shiny new toy that brings people in to the shiny new toy is the only thing that matters.
