Any modern electric car/truck. I don’t hate the idea of electric cars; I just view them as disposable due to the general lack of repairability baked onto their design. If things change and modular designs and 3rd party repair solutions become more common, I may reconsider. However I fear that I may have to amend my

Easy.  The Jaguar XJ220.  The replacement of the originally promised V12 with a turbo V6 and an economy in recession ensured its early demise.  Its still a cool car, but not what was expected at the time.

I love my Lotus Elise. Driving it gives me all of the noises and chuckability that I had with my RSX-S but now with more visibility, fun chassis dynamics, an open top, and exotic looks. The only thing I don’t enjoy is the threat of getting pancaked by Escalades that don’t see me. I’m grateful that my car is at least

I hope that when the moneyed aristocracy squeezes all of the cachet out of the Lotus brand with bloated vanity projects and glorified grocery getters, that the same aristocracy will see fit to sell Lotus to a kit car manufacturer that will then give us the pure, soulful cars that are truly worthy of that great badge.

Cool!  They get a chance to bring back the manual.

Good

2005 Lotus Elise. I’ve always wanted one, but was never in a position to buy one. When I finally paid off student loans and got a house with a garage, prices had jumped up. In 2021, there was no telling how high prices on vehicles would go, so I jumped on one a couple of hours drive away. I probably overpaid by two or

It was a load-bearing ribbon.

Learn how to drive my newly-acquired Elise at the limit by doing autocross

A new Elise clam is 3-4k unpainted. Figure 6-7k of repairs after a cracked clam. Its more expensive than a conventional fascia for sure, but not mid 5 digits expensive.  That being said, this is still a crazy choice for a safari car as you have said.

I grew up in a 3800-powered Monte Carlo. I was always amazed when people would swear up and down that the engine was so so great. Ours did nothing but misfire and blow up catalytic converters.  A lone anecdote, I know, but it was far from perfect.

Never in my life have I harbored anything but disgust for the design language of Harleys. However, the 1250 Custom and the Sportster have turned that right around for me.  Good for you, HD.  I'm rootin' for you now, not against you.

This is good Jalopnik.

I got the OEM rubber floor liners for my Cruze. They clean every easily and they seem thicker and more durable than Weathertech.

I really felt this story. My mom was/is single raising me and that feeling of having nobody in your corner to stand up to bullies like this is really tough to bear. It is situations like these that remind me of how valuable communities of support can be.

Harbor freight grease gun.  I only used it once before it broke making it very difficult to use later on.  Also, many suspension joints can be purchased pre-greased.

I too share your conflict. I am in a similar situation in that I graduated with a large amount of debt and, fortunately, paid it off rather quickly by living far below my means. I do not think that indiscriminate debt forgiveness is the answer in the short term.

Cheap gas? Why get a Volt when you can get your 300 hp crossover siege tower instead? As far as the electric/hybrid route is concerned, the Model 3 has a cachet that the Prius doesn’t.  Personally, I really enjoy the ability to unlock the car without a fob that makes me look like I have a butt tumor.  Every car made

Open the fill port before you drain.  If the fill port bolt breaks off or is seized, job over and you can drive to a professional.  If you figure this out after you have drained it, its a flatbed to the professional for you.

Not to mention the fact that there are plenty of regionally popular tracks where you shift 2 times or less during a lap.
