The conservatives look at the Taliban and think “Why can’t we treat women like that?”  This is just another attempt to do that.

One more law in Quebec, you have to get rid of any interest in companies that would create a conflict of interest. Furthermore, all lobbyists must be registered in order to contact or meet politicians.

The real question is what exactly does her husband do to earn such a princely sum. He just happens to get paid by a major gas producing interest in her district? How did he get this job? I want to see invoices.

And the consequences for the law breaking are……..?

I agree with everything you’ve said here, with the exception that I have to “buy” my reasons for not tipping by contacting my rep & making the establishment aware of my willingness to pay more instead of tipping. This smacks of the plastic industry’s tactic of blaming the public for littering when the onus is on them

I would love to, unfortunately it’s usually handwritten on a chalkboard on the back wall that aren’t close enough to squint at until you’re at the front of the line.  At that point you can feel the impatience of everyone behind you...

“and Naomi says that if you can’t or won’t tip, you should stay home.”

Yeah that part was a bit ridiculous. If a barista goes above and beyond, gives me recommendations, etc., then yes a tip is warranted. If they’re just doing what they are already getting paid to do? I shouldn’t be expected to tip on every cup of coffee I order. They don’t get paid $2/hr like servers do. If they feel as

Tipping someone for grabbing a cup and filling it with some drip coffee is ridiculous. Maybe if I got some off menu item that took a lot of effort but how about just pay your staff appropriately? We don’t tip the cashier at McDonalds, why is coffee special?

Agreed. Make your menu understandable and have it posted where it’s easy to read. If you’ve decided to make it all cutesie and twee, blending in with the decor, don’t be surprised when people don’t know what it says.

especially as someone with poor eyesight, though... it sucks when the only menu seems to be behind the counter. sometimes i can kind of hover around away from the line to get a closer look, but sometimes this kind of menu means, even with glasses, that i don’t get to look at the menu entirely before i reach the

“Workers rely on their tips. If you can’t support [the staff], don’t bother showing up,”

Naomi says that if you can’t or won’t tip, you should stay home.

NFL fans are generally open minded and rational about things like this so I’m sure there will be no complaints from anybody.

You do however get a free pass to ignore the menu if it’s written in chalk on a black board by someone who never learned how to write.

This. Why do people always get this shit wrong? You have to report cash transactions. You have to report tips. You have to report online purchases.

Owners have to report credit card tips to the IRS, but cash goes straight into your barista’s pocket.

Agreed with everything right up to the tipping part.

Tipping to me depends on the place. There is a coffee shop in town where the baristas make a living wage (or as close as we get in the US) and people feel comfortable not tipping, you know, the way it would be in any civilized f’ing society throughout history.

“Workers rely on their tips. If you can’t support [the staff], don’t bother showing up,” she says matter-of-factly.
