The only thing I can think of that someone else hasn’t already mentioned is maybe who bought the tickets first? I mean, if I’ve been planning something a long time and I bought tickets months ago, I’m not giving them up because someone else who decided to do this last week got to the airport a bit before I did.

You know very well the line is drawn with waitstaff who make below minimum wage and delivery drivers who have to pay for the delivery vehicle.

I am all for raising the prices. But why should you get out of paying extra for the people who do the job until then. People still have to get paid, they still have to buy gas, etc...
