It’s worse than that, even. Less than Lethal weapons were introduced as an alternative to having to shoot someone. Meaning, they were only intended for situations where opening fire would have been entirely justified. However, US Police have taken to treating the things like airsoft, and keep killing people with them.

Yep! Getting shot with a rubber bullet or a bean bag to the chest will not end well.

Why are you pitching this as binary choice? Either dress as a historical colonizer or a something that reeks of cultural appropriation? This is fantasy roleplaying, they could... create something different?

I know you’re taking a lot of heat here, but I’m with you. There are probably better places for a bunch of white people to exploit for money and with infinite choices it’s hard to see why they thought this was a good idea.

Imagine a group of allies and progressives being like “hey we want to explore some other cultures in a fun and not appropriation way so let’s hire some people to guide us on that way and present it to people” and standing on the sidelines and being like NO YOU CAN’T DO THAT!!!!

Maybe step back and realize if you and one or two other people are trying to “call out” an entire comment section, maybe you’re the one with the bad take?

Can we stop with the whole bullshit damned if we do, damned if we do not approach I’m seeing in the comments? The reality is, there isn’t just, “We don’t do this” or “We explore other cultures while only creating space for people who exist in those cultures in the background.”

The “solution” is the same as it ever was: Listen to the criticism of marginalized people and try to do better next time.
