AEB saved one of my old bosses cars from a catastrophic wreck. Two cars in front of me slammed on their brakes down to 0 from 100kmh in heavy traffic. I saw it straight away, but the car (A Ford Mondeo) acted before I could. It works

Its just the alert. And to be honest it happens on city streets like if you are going around a slight corner it picks up a parked car (I’m probably driving too fast tbh)

Its just the alert not AEB

Its only the alert system not the AEB

Its just noise and an alert on the dash, not the auto brake. If it was auto-braking then I would probably have sold the car by now...

You get I’m exaggerating right? My point is, I would rather a few false positives than a fatal accident...

Heh looking at used 4x4 pick ups, “Looks amazing with 20inch aftermarket..” no thanks how do I get my BF Goodrich A/T’s on there!

Yes this. My Outback gives me so many false positives on its pre-collision warning system, but I would much rather 1000 false positives than a fatal crash

Coolest car in a nominal sense was dads 2006 Ford Falcon XR6, I never really warmed to it - but it was his pride and joy for the time he owned. My favorite car was his 1992 Toyota Hilux Surf (4Runner) 2.4td 5 speed manual. That was a cool truck, it was the family car for far longer that it ought to have been. He also

Patrick - I started religiously reading Jalopnik in 2012 when selling advertising for a dying newspaper group in rural Australia after an Australian car journo retweeted an article from Jalopnik. I hated that job and Jalopnik brightened my day - everyday. It still does. I was saddened when Matt Hardigree announced he

Yeah, I can’t believe how quickly PSA turned Opel around

I don’t think Governments should subsidize any industry. They shouldn’t be handing out money for drought assistance. Water storage is a big problem (I spent 3 years living in the Riverina). I have a good friend with a station in south west NSW. New Zealand does not subsidize our farmers one cent and we have some of

Sorry I don’t understand your argument... I never said that Australians are stupid. Why make steel in Australia when you can buy it elsewhere for less? Manufacturing in a high wage economy only leads to expensive goods that no one wants to buy. You can either have high wages and high prices or low wages and cheap

PSA doesn’t own Holden. Holden just sell re-badged Astras and Insignias from when they were owned by GM

The Australian taxpayer should never have been subsidising automaker production. GM Holden paid billions back to Detroit and effectively stole Australian taxpayer dollars. This is why you don’t hand over free money to anyone, they will take it and do what they want with it and effictively say Fuck the consequences. GM

I’ve said this since the mid-2000's when Holden dropped Opel products for GM Daewoo cars for its small compact and mid-sized cars. Holden should have taken the opportunity to go up market launch the Insignia, Astra and Corsa. Meanwhile let Chevrolet enter the marketplace to sell the GM Daewoo stuff, unlike in Europe

Down under we have had our own sad tale with the demise of the Australian built cars. “Corporate Cabs” as they are known in New Zealand used to be Ford Fairlanes/LTDs, or Holden Statesmans(men?)/Caprices, then they became just Caprices when Ford stopped building their limos in the mid 2000's, when the Caprice went out

I lived in Brisbane Australia and I used my heated seats. Currently summer here in Auckland New Zealand and it’s getting hot, had a bit of a sore back the other day turned the seat heaters on cranked the a/c up and I was cool and my back ache was being cured

Damn straight! The other one is memory seats. We are looking for a 7 seater to replace our Outback and the mid-spec Highlander doesn’t have memory seats but the mid spec CX9 does... guess where I’m heading! We also need to upsize our other car and you can bet that will not be being replaced by another small car

Go on...
