I believe this is correct and incredibly dumb at the same time. You aren’t dumb - the rule is. We are repeatedly told that officials can review plays for things other than what was specifically challenged which makes it dumber. If this happened in a playoff game then illegal contact would be reviewable next year.

The first few time I saw him, I thought it was cool that they had rules expert Mike Pereira around to explain the rules during games.  More recently, though, I’ve grown frustrated that the rules of football are so complex and convoluted that a “rules expert” is required in order to explain the rules of the game.
