I would argue people are far more overconfident on streets. There is familiarity in the environment that gives people the confidence to push harder and harder. If you’ve never been on a track, or you rarely do it, you’re likely to be more nervous and careful.

I spent 2 weeks in Hong Kong visiting my wife’s family and doing all the touristy stuff and I have to say that without even thinking about I could live there without a car should I need to because the public transportation is so good, so accessible, and so cheap. Yes, people still drove there, but it wasn’t necessary.
