You’re missing the point. Governments decide what to subsidize all the time, from industry to social benefits to research. Making a stink because one person benefits and another doesn’t (in the case of EVs literally anyone can benefit if they can afford one) reeks of racing to the bottom.
Governments are also subsidizing things like law enforcement, fire protection, road, etc.
