If you look at the election results this time around, the wins were so much narrower for the GOP. Given that trend, like you, I have high hopes that Texas might deliver blue in 2020.

I’m not arguing that point. Sure, it would have been nice if the Obama vote would have covered that. But I know many independents who voted for Trump in ‘16 (and I would assume voted Pub before that), and who now regret that choice. It seems like there are a lot of conservative-leaning independents who are waking up…

And as a consequence, if they’re “uncomfortable”, I don’t think they are on the fence. I think they’re quietly, perhaps even unconsciously, bigoted.

I think we need to recognize that bigotry isn’t an absolute, and sometimes it helps to give people an out, allow them to choose the better path.
