They improve the performance of the game overall. The dreaded stuttering is gone thanks to that, we can see cars much further in our field of view allowing us to dodge much easier, ect.

It's true that in EVE you always have stuff to do, so investing time to acquire the ISK (in-game currency) is not a big deal, but don't forget that EVE Online doesn't have more than 80K players, so this might work better with a bigger player base (if Wildstar manages to get it).
By using EVE's model you eliminate one of the biggest plagues in MMO's and most disruptive when it comes to the economy, BOTS.
It's chances of becoming F2P are very slim, due to the game time one can buy then sell in the Auction House for in-game currency to another player. This has kept EVE Online out of F2P for the past 10 years, and it wouldn't surprise me it would have the same effect on this game.
