AutoCAD's pretty much the worst thing there is for 3D. Creo/ProE, SolidWorks, Inventor (which is the true 3D software made by the same company as AutoCAD) would be the way to go.

This is inconsistent with my experience with 3D printers. They typically require an awful lot of fine tuning to create a part with any degree of structural integrity.

Fair enough, it's tough to quantify other measures of tire performance, since it varies so greatly based on conditions and the car's suspension setup.
