Oh and let’s not forget this.......

The ultra-secretive branch of Starfleet that works in the shadows walks around wearing special badges that denote they belong to Section 31. Got it.

So it’s a network of spies and saboteurs that openly displays who they are?

Yeah, they need to learn something about secrecy. By the time of DS9, we were led to believe that virtually no one in Starfleet was aware of them, and they tended to manipulate Starfleet officers for their own goals (such as having Kirk steal a cloaking device) without them knowing. Having people walk around with

Isn’t it a bad idea for a covert organization to have its members wear some visible identifier for all to see?

Best Star Trek *period*

Remember when a lot of liberals and independents said that a single Supreme Court opening wasn’t enough of a justification for them to vote for Hillary because something, something, being inspired, something, sticking it to the establishment, something, perpetuating the status quo?

Like it or not, there’s no feasible way to change the two party system. Doing so would require a massive reworking of the Constitution, and going down -that- road is extremely dangerous. If you don’t believe me, look how many right wing nutjobs are busy pushing for a Constitutional Convention to do just that (and are

Agree for 2 reasons. The biggest one is that its not like the budget issue is off the table, we only extended it 3 weeks. We can still shut down the government if we are still nowhere with DACA, but this time the GOP can’t hold CHIP hostage or use it in bad faith to muddy the waters.

Same. This is why far lefties make such crappy allies. The GOP took two hostages. We saved one and now we can focus on saving the other but the purity ponies were jonesing for a shutdown. THAT was their goal. Not the Dreamers or CHIP. They wanted the drama. To hell with the policy or the nine million people who were

What about “series” where each book tells a complete and satisfying story on its own, in addition to furthering the series as a whole. And where the author has a solid track record of regular, punctual output?  Asking for a friend.

I just read the first Binti novella and I thought it was great. It definitely relies on the idea of technology so advanced that it’s indistinguishable from magic, and much of the description of the world around Binti is not really explained in ways that are easy to understand.

I feel like the Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul moment in Rebels is the best treatment of the sort of warrior Obi-Wan is in his old age. To me, the fight above perfectly bridges the prequel era and the OT era, because it pays homage to the old stories with every single moment, while also recognizing that people do change.

You know what you call eastern Washington? Western Idaho.

That explains how I was looking at the mailbox when my Amazon order was supposedly delivered and saw no one come to the house. It was in the mailbox the next day.

So, all the bros who spent the last few months screaming at Katie Rife for daring to talk about this and INSISTING THAT THERE WAS NOTHING TO TALK ABOUT until some accusers came forward and until then this was just a plot by mean ol’ Jezebel and AV Club to smear poor Louie...

And this piece is helping how, exactly? You’ve been rooting for Discovery to fail from the jump and every new piece of info is another excuse to breathlessly write about its doom.

And the first STAR TREK: DISCOVERY novel drops this month as well.

Oh look... iO9 writers/commentators shitting on Star Trek YET A FUCKING GAIN...

The one item on this list I absolutely take issue with is head-hopping. There are ways to write multiple-pov stories without jumping between the thoughts of multiple characters in the same scene. As a reader, I find that intrusive and distracting, taking me out of the story. As a writer, it makes me shout obscenities
