Manufacturers have decided “surface rust” isn’t a problem anymore. My 2013 avalanche with 20,000 miles on it has lost almost all it’s frame coating, GM wont’ fix it. They say it won’t rust through, and the metal is strong enough to last decades with “surface rust”.

Nobody inspects welds that closely. The best they do is take a sample out randomly and test. But that can let a lot of bad stuff get through.

I doubt the Frame is made by FCA.

GM is worse. Brand new trucks with rust inside the engine bay and frames that lose all their crap coating in 20k miles.

Now if we could get GM to repair the shit frames they made on 2013 trucks, we might be going somewhere..
