This is close to my method. Put the eggs in cold water, bring to a boil for about a minute, remove from heat and cover. Let sit for 20 minutes then pour tap water in to cool the eggs. Works perfectly every time.

How is that a waste? Evaporation or soaking into the water table, doesn't matter. It gets recycled and waters the grass along the way.
