Don’t get me wrong - it was a good zinger. I have to admit that as a braves fan I loved those Smoltz closer years, even if in your head you know he’s probably worth more as a starter.

Well for one thing, Brown was a notorious jackass who was despised by fans at the end of his career. Plus Brown was in the Mitchell Report. Those two things alone are a death nail for a guy with borderline numbers.
If Schilling doesn’t get in on this ballot, he will get in on other ballots. Those three World Series wins will weigh heavily, plus his World Series appearance with the Phillies..
I think that’s why people put up with his stuff to be honest. He was OUT THERE! But, when it was time to do what he was paid handsomely to do, he did it well.
Don’t forget Gerald Ford. Anyone who played center and linebacker on a 2-time undefeated national champion college football team (Michigan) could probably crush a few dingers.
that just doesn’t make any sense. you threw up a comparison of win totals and conveniently left out that one guy spent years in a role where you generally get saves instead of wins. Schilling should be in the hall of fame, but you can make that point without being deceptive.
“I think the one thing we can all agree on is that, whatever his faults, the man could pitch his ass off and deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.”
Keep your damned numbers to yo-self, Magary has spoken. WE CAN ALL AGREE.
It’s just me, isn’t it? By the way, we are now 28 minutes into a 46 minute podcast and they have not yet mentioned Curt Schilling, the Hall of Fame, or even the sport of baseball.
Sorry, seems none of us are used to commenters actually listening to the Deadcast, heh.
+1 big stick
If any president could crush an ugly 12-6, it’d be Ike (or maybe Teddy Roosevelt).
Kevin Brown didn't do shit in the playoffs. Schilling did, repeatedly.
Schilling: 80.7 bWAR, 4 top-5 Cy Young finishes (3 second place)
“They want to spread the Olympics out, which means giving them to cities and countries that can’t monetarily support them”
Oh, it’s mostly bribe guided. They don’t give a shit where they have them beyond that. I mean places with good sex tourism are nice, of course.
They could care less about spreading out the Olympics. They care about bribery and graft. That’s harder to do with existing facilities in place.
The IOC requires that you custom build a lot of the infrastructure. And disastrous cost overruns aren’t anything new - most notably, Montreal took thirty (!) years to pay off the debt from the 1976 Olympics.
Not the Olympics but Birmingham, Alabama is getting the World Games and we are in for a world of hurt where that is concerned. I don’t have high hopes for the funding it is going to take and the city is of no help. We just got Uber a week ago!
I’m holding out hope for an Olympics essentially held along the I-95 corridor in the North East. Have the Ceremony in D.C. (seems like a no brainer) and have events in the already absurd amount of stadiums in the U.S.
And in the case of Brazil it’s this sick one-two punch that FIFA and the IOC threw them.
