Yes, language evolves. But some things are also worth preserving. The whole point of language is to communicate, and when you make language choices that make your communication unclear, problems ensue.

a balance needs to be made as the article states if the rules get in the way it can hinder communication and annoy people but the opposite can be equally true ditching the rules completely and chalking everything up to an evolving language can do just as much damage to communication as a whole just look at this

THIS! All of this!

What do you call the growing population on the opposite end who willingly toss out the rule book and chalk up all horrible writing under the guise of it adapting and growing? I’m all for not being overly strict with the rules (ie. I intentionally say stupid things such as “going to get your hair did”) but I’m also

The same counts for magazines, and in that case, if you reload a magazine when you still have bullets in your gun, those are gone for good

ighome.com tries to imitate igoogle. A lot of the widgets lack support and updates, but I’ve gotten into a good groove with it and find it a useful launching point for my home page. It’s been so long since I used igoogle I’ve sort of settled with what I can get, I’m sure igoogle was 100x better :-)

I never used Google Reader, but I did love iGoogle.com, which was a portal page that you could load up with RSS feeds, weather widgets, sports scores widgets, the latest video on a YouTube channel, comic strips, crosswords, etc...

Protopage.com does close to the same thing. And it’s my RSS reader/news aggregator. All

“The orgiastic frenzy over dark mode is, as far as I can tell, the result of the bandwagon effect” — Or: I, like many, have a history of using Dark Mode from long before it was called Dark Mode the moment it became available in any app.... The Treo 700wx with a custom firmware/OS loaded. Once we saw that app

I’ve gone dark every chance I get with my interfaces. I’ve been doing it ever since Microsoft let you tweak your UI with a custom pallete. So if 20+ years is a fad... *shrug*   I am a programmer though, so your mileage may vary.

Umm. Not blowing my eyeballs out when using my phone at night is by FAR the most valuable reason. And barely even mentioned here. It’s the most practical application by far, and absolutely legit. Must we shit on everything?

What’s with all these blue shirts? You think blue shirts are cool? blue shirts are BULLSHIT. Here’s a weird swerve at some actor to prove my point.

i can’t believe i bothered reading this.

NO! Don't try and edit my childhood you make three slices from the edge lol

I don’t think it’s the steam. I think it’s the cooked side shrinking, causing the slice of bologna to dome upwards. The X allows it to warp unevenly instead.

Just don’t cut it in the teflon-coated pan.

I work in event planning and cannot spell hors d’oeuvres (copied and pasted it just now). I literally always refer to them as “appetizers” when I have to write down what food will be at an event.

And if they don’t have a script it’s just a $20 upload to 3play and they get it auto transcribed for both the CC and transcript.

Agree completely, I'm here to read

I love the Electric Sheep screensaver.

I don't understand why this isn't available for modern systems. Vivendi has this IP just sitting there. Charge 5 bucks or whatever. There's literally no downside. Tons of people would buy it for the nostalgia alone.
