The hat isn’t really the point, like I said in my original post:

When in any iteration of Star Trek did a cast member wear a hat on an away mission (Excluding time travel and holodeck stories?) Off the top of my head, I think the side character Boothby wore one, as groundskeeper.

Late to the party again, but some musings anyway, prefaced by the fact that I absolutely adore Star Trek TNG, DS9 and even Voyager. I want and need this show to be good, and I will keep watching, because I didn’t wait 18 freakin’ years for more Prime Universe Star Trek, only to stop watching at the earliest sign of

Hit the nail on the head!

What can I say, I prefer my Star Trek on a fancy starship or starbase... Or more accurately: a Firefly-esque Star Trek show might be cool, but Captain Picard of all people belongs on the bridge of a fancypants starship.

I love the later DS9 and First Contact “grey shoulder” uniforms, but the ones from TNG (S3-S7 and Voyager are also great I think.

I’ve been saying it a lot recently: this show feels like a fan film because (so far) it doesn’t have a single elaborate and luxurious set, like a bridge or engineering.

What do you expect from someone who vapes? Ugh.

I agree with basically everything you just said!

A little too late to the party, but some things that stood out to me:

It blows my mind that the Nimitz and Roosevelt incidents aren’t a bigger deal in the media.

In my headcanon the Moriarty program was a one in a billion fluke, created by the Enterprise D’s computer, arguably one of the most powerful computers in the whole Alpha quadrant. Moriarty is something that baffled everyone, and his creation also couldn’t be repeated since they don’t know how it happened in the first

I love TNG, and have been wishing for a continuation since Nemesis, so I’ll definitely keep watching, but this episode was a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion...

Makes for good drama though!

I’m very partial to TNG, but if I had to make a combined crew, it would probably look like this. Plus I’d definitely have Miles O’Brien on board, he’s not an officer so I feel I can cheat a little there.

I thought it was just me. So when something is cool, it slaps? Ugh.

What a missed opportunity that that Romulan basically disappeared after 5 minutes.

Painfully bland, obviously. Typos are the worst.

Yeah the fact that they left out Ripley and/or the Nostromo crew is staggering. Truly reputation-crushingly staggering. At the cost of what, a droid from a painfuly bland Star Wars prequel? Christ.

China is an honest to god communist dictatorship though. Does America have countless of areas where much improvement is needed? Sure, clearly, but at least it’s still a democracy. (Or it’s supposed to be one anyway.)
