I think I got further- closer to whatever the modern era was at the time the book was written. However, I mostly skimmed from the early 90s era to the end. I didn't read it as closely as all that came before it.
I would recommend Leon Bridges' record for a bit newer take on what Cooke was doing. I don't know if he copies Cooke too much but it's a good record on its own.
