I’d say that Be Cool was a great movie, and could be one of his best performances. It helps when Elmore Leonard writes the book with him specifically in mind to play the character in the movie adaptation.

The article addressed how that comes up, and people usually point to the audience score to counter that. It also points out how the audience scores have kind of sucked for some of his recent films as well.
