For someone wanting the flexibility of an HTPC without spending a lot of money, you can probably use an old computer or a crapbox (DIY PC with spare components) combined with any of these devices.

I think maybe you can limit this to your friends. And if any friends pull that asshole move...you can actually give them what they deserve.
