I don’t think price was the issue. GM added the LT1 trim, which made the base V8 cheaper than a Mustang GT and it still didn’t bump sales.

Heck, I mostly associate it with Nissans that came out in the early 2000s (350Z in 2002, Murano in 2003, Infiniti FX in 2002).
