What I do is acknowledge it, and then encourage people to refocus on Ukraine, as in “you’re right, but that’s a separate conversation/we’re talking about Ukraine right now though” rather than either dismissing the point, or (worse) defending it.
On Iran? I don’t think the context vis the US’s relationship with Israel compared to its relationship with Iran makes that an inconsistency.
