Eh, that part doesn’t bother me at all. At least it’s honest. And adding justices lessens the stakes that go with each particular seat, which takes a little bit of the stress out of the confirmation process (probably but enough, but at least a little bit).

Whole Foods sells it (I have no idea where you live, but my #1 vice these days is getting a Topo Chico while in Whole Foods’s interminable checkout line).

Yeah, this is a weird very modern thing (I think designed to kind of make fun of conservative flag-humpers). “Troop” (singular) is a collective noun (“troops” (plural) being a multiple groups of soldiers), so this usage isn’t really correct.

K.

Except for the “Fuck your doorman. Fuck your security guard.” part, because those people definitely make less money than you do and probably get treated like they don’t exist half the time. But yeah, in general, good piece.

Do you have the best memory ever or did you confirm some of these details? Please say the former, so I can believe in a higher power.

Gonna call it now, Derek Dietrich will hit fewer than 25 homers this season and fewer than 15 next season.

I don’t agree. Talking about things--even and perhaps especially things that will take a long time to come true--is exactly how you make them come true. Consistent public conversation is the method by which political change actually happens, even if it takes quite a long time.

This is very clearly not what he’s saying in the article. It’s not “why haven’t we done it?” (to which the answer is obvious), it’s “why aren’t people talking about this as much anymore?”

Pine Township, where Brown lived and this guy apparently still lives, is “like that.” Honestly, I’m a tiny bit surprised Brown decided to live there. His family must’ve been the only black people in the subdivision (and it’s the most charmless suburbia).

The single best part about the Raptors nickname is that they’re the only dinosaur-themed team in North American major pro sports (and one of only two reptile-themed teams). It’s unique without being sOoOoO uNiQuE like a lot of minor league baseball team names are.

Come on, the Home Ec department got axed two rounds of budget cuts ago.

$2m is a lot of money (more than I have!), but it’s also really not that much. It’s, like, dentist rich. He’s much closer to Joe Normal Guy than he is to, like, any given MD at Goldman. I mean, he wouldn’t even hit the old, lower estate tax threshold!

The worst legacy of the ‘90s. Abstract nouns as team names. Lynx is kinda cool, though.

I like literally all of those people more than I like Julian Assange, sadly.

I don’t at all understand this “gin up the base” point people seem to make a lot. The GOP is, minus Justin Amash and a bunch of loser ex-Bush people who no one likes, but still have regular bylines in national publications, 100% united behind Trump. Trump is broadly extremely unpopular with the wider populace. The

Let me put this in a bit of other, different context: $675 an hour today gets you, like, a third year associate at Kirkland & Ellis who may or may not be particularly good at their job, but definitely billed 350 hours last month.

Also, if you’ve ever been to law school, you know that many professors are completely ignorant of the practical aspects of the legal profession. The most common path to legal academia barely runs through practice. You end up with a lot of professors whose sole experience actually practicing law was a relatively short

I would recommend reading this thread. It’s not quite as simple as “representing corporation=bad.

$675 is also not really all that much for a lawyer of her stature. The big shot bankruptcy lawyers at firms are charging well in excess of $1000 an hour (though, to be clear, I’m not sure what $675 then would be now and the billables for a firm are designed to pay for overhead and things that don’t get billed out).
