it was pretty capable when it first came out. it had some of the best brakes of its time and handling was a fair bit better than its rivals.. but fast and furious did glamourise it for the wrong reasons.

i doubt it would have done any better in VW's place. they both went done their run at a time and condition when they both felt was right to get the best, they both hit the drag wall and they both did 2 runs in opposite directions and got the average so there's no downhill advantage.
