Same-sies.
Hoy! Los Japonese no usan sarcasmo. Y muchos otros tambien.
Actually police officers routinely use the terms “male” and “female” as nouns as procedure when reporting victims and suspects over the radio and in reports. So do court documents. I mean, not to totally contradict you or anything because outside of those two professions and maybe biologists I agree that the usage of…
Not to defend or detract from anyone in this discussion and I know this is a really old post and all but y’all do know that this is international territory and that while most everyone has one or more forms of humor, not all cultures engage in sarcasm, right?
Can it be about context and intent?
Um, Jezebel?
I guess I don’t understand how attempting to engage a real person is lazy when that’s like a two second google and five minute read versus an effort to connect with three different threads on a discussion board that’s taken the better part of an hour. Combative? I made no insults but I implied I detected one. I did…
“female scientists”
Well, but now you’re baiting folks. You are incorrectly assuming that people know the difference between adjectives and nouns. In the US, that’s going to be a high bar for the folks who are routinely using ‘female’ as an insult in the first place...
Wait, who said ‘woman’ is offensive? Is it? What are supposed to call people with a uterus and breasts?
I’m confused. Why is the term “thug” dehumanizing? I’ve never heard of an animal or alien thug.
Part of the issue might stem from the fact that some men are ignorant that using “female” as a noun is in anyway offensive to anyone. These same men might use the term without realizing it offends anyone and without intending to de-humanize women or a woman in any way.
Sorry. From the South. We filter all “yes” as “yep” by auto. ;)
The line “Yep, that’s clear” felt like snark. I mean I’m admitting ignorance and asking a straightforward question. I bemoan the lack of nuance online and apologize for assuming snark.
No, I’m not trolling. Not intentionally anyway. I’m an anthropologist. I ask culturally relevant questions and discuss them as dispassionately and unambiguously as possible in order to attain understanding of things that hold mystery for me. When I write papers I make my history and profile known to better attain self…
She had so many good ones. The Russian translator teleprompter and the Giuliani were two of the best. The Putin horse joke was borderline tasteless and I totally sucked air when it hit. So yeah, I tried to match interpretations for the borderline ones with what the audience was doing.
Fascinating. So does that make the term ‘male’ unpalatable as well?
Is that snark I smell? Why do I deserve snark while requesting enlightenment?
In what world would appreciating someone’s appearance in earnest be any kind of detriment? Regardless of who or what you are, wearing the right thing at the right and getting praise for it should never be out of bounds. She absolutely looked fabulous especially compared to some of the stuff she’s worn in the past…
