I agree with the point, but I hate the joke itself. The “Character says non-PC thing, only to be shown talking about something completely different from what the audience expects” bit is as old as the idea of being PC, and hasn’t gotten any better with time.

“LGBT Issues”

Ahh yes, I loved the brilliant handling of LGBT issues, like when Kanji was implied to be gay, but then it turned out that he wasn’t gay and that he just liked sewing. All he had to do was just grow up.

Or when it seemed like Naoto might have a sort of trans thing going on, only for it to turn out that

If you keep repeating it’s good, maybe you’ll believe yourself.

Oh man, the second I saw this headline I knew I would find this post. Like, this exact post. Because every time there’s an article that so much as hints at the concept of someone who isn’t a white guy appearing in a video game, some insecure gamerbro waddles out of his fedoracave to bring the moldy old “LEL TRIGGERED

I too hate being nice to my children , and would wish upon them nothing but woe.

It’s called a character arc, look it up some time.

I disagree that they’re getting writing Harley wrong here - this is completely in-line with the best Harley stories, if you allow the character to grow over time.

“I also have it bad so acknowledging the struggles of others who have it bad it annoying.”

“So hey, same problem, different group of people: People who are overweight and do cosplay that doesn’t fit their body. They get a lot of shit hurled at them as well, but I don’t see them starting a #29daysofbodycosplay?”

Hey there Stella, thought I’d do my best to respond as, well, a Trans Woman. I’m relatively early in my transition mind you, but I think I can still give you decently fair answers to your questions. I do find it comfortable AND meaningful to hang out with cisgendered women and be considered “one of the girls” because

Well trans women aren’t a monolith so they probably all have different opinions on things. Just like cis people. You connect with strangers presumably regardless of their gender

I’m struggling with how to meaningfully connect with trans women in the sense that they have had a lifetime of different discrimination. They have been simultaneously hurt and privledged by a system that prefers men (at least until they transition?). Do trans women find it comfortable/meaningful to hang out with cis

I was holding my breath when I read the email they sent out to alums on Thursday. So, so happy that they are doing this.

It’s all about straight dudes who don’t want to imagine anyone except straight white dudes like themselves play or create video games and are outraged about any representation or acknowledgement of those other types of people. Additionally, they hate women because women won’t have sex with them, which they feel they

Don’t you dare fucking call me and other trans women “mentally ill men” you fetid, squirming little insect.

Women can now go to a women’s college! This marks the end of the women’s college!

Well seeing as the joke is saying that it’s somehow horrifying to sleep with trans people then yes it is very offensive. If I made a joke where the punchline was that someone slept with someone who turned out to be a black person who whited up so they killed themselves it would be seen as incredibly racist and would

The problem is that the core of the joke is “he was so upset at having been ‘tricked’ by a trans woman that he killed himself.” There’s no way to rewrite the joke to not be transphobic without fundamentally altering every detail.

It’s lovely paired with all the whining about how anyone offended must not be a real gamer.

Go read the Steam forum conversations about this issue if you want some entertainment. People asking for refunds, calling Obsidian the Anti-Christ, it's hilarious.
