Yeah. I grew up in the 70s/80s too and I look back on that car and it still makes me giddy a little.

Had a ‘79 Pinto woody station wagon for a few years. It had a 4-speed transmission and AC. Not a bad little car! It wasn’t fast, but it drove well with the rack-and-pinion and it was fun to shift. Fun fact: the cruise control refused to take a set higher than about 56mph. Thanks a lot, double-nickel speed limit.

During my 2nd tour of duty in Germany we were fortunate to get on post housing. Primary reasons were accessibility, security, and $ savings. The drawbacks were lack of contact with locals, no say so about decorating, furniture, etc. And no garage. Also a post edict saying you could not work on vehicles in the housing…

The Ford Pinto. Yes, it was awful and likely hazardous, but it was the first car I had with a manual transmission, it cost around $250, and I did quite a few reason-challenged things in that car. The Alfa Spider is an objectively terrible car at pretty much everything except for styling. Barely works, and sounds like a pain in the ass to fix.

When I was younger, I used to throw any trash in my possession in to the beds of random pickup trucks. My attitude was that if the trucks weren’t being used for actual work, they might as well serve a public duty as a dumpster.
